DARK MASS @ Darwin Fringe
Brown's Mart
DARK MASS is an immersive audiovisual experience that pushes the boundaries of perception, sound, and space. This multichannel performance invites audiences to step into a world where the senses are tested. Combining spatial sound, light, and film, DARK MASS creates an environment that is as captivating as it is unsettling.
Inspired by exploring the enigmatic and vast landscapes of the Northern Territories, this project transforms these haunting encounters into a visceral, theatrical experience. The performance evokes the eerie stillness and unanswered mysteries of these remote spaces, transporting audiences into a realm where sensory perception is challenged and emotions are heightened.
Through carefully choreographed soundscapes, projected film, and lighting, DARK MASS manipulates spatial awareness and creates a surreal environment that is both otherworldly and deeply immersive.
Sarah Johnston is an audiovisual sound artist working with both installation and performance art practices. Her work often explores storytelling by creating immersive spaces through the use of sound and film that explore what can emerge from personal experience.
This show is being presented as a part of the 2025 Darwin Fringe Festival Program.
